Converting Documents to PDF Format

Note: The Adobe Acrobat PDF Creator software is only installed on three machines in the Computer Commons. Those machines are the last three in the row of scanners on the north wall of the CT156 (main) lab and are labeled Casper, Savu and Mindanao. It is not installed in any other Computer Commons lab or on any other computers in that lab.

General Instructions for Converting Documents to PDF Format

You can convert anything that has a print function to an Adobe Acrobat PDF file using the following procedure:

  1. Log in to your ADIT account on one of the three computers in the Computer Commons that has Acrobat, or any other system that you can access that has Adobe Acrobat installed on it.
  2. Create, save or open the file that you want to convert.
  3. Begin printing the document in the normal manner. Important: Make sure you access printing via a menu that allows you to select a printer, not a quick launch icon from a tool bar
  4. Select Adobe PDF from the pull down menu for Printer Name
  5. Choose a name and a location for the PDF file in the same way you would save any other document.
  6. Your document will be converted to PDF and opened in Acrobat for your inspection.

Instructions for Converting Microsoft Office Documents to PDF Format

To convert Microsoft Office documents to Adobe Acrobat PDF format you can use the procedure noted above or you can:

  1. Log in to your ADIT account on one of the three computers in the Computer Commons that has Acrobat.
  2. Launch the Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and create, save or open the file that you want to convert.
  3. Click the Convert to Adobe PDF icon -- first icon in the second row of icons at the top.
  4. In the Save Adobe PDF File As dialogue box, choose a location and name your file, then click Save create your file. Acrobat will open and display the file for your inspection.
